The Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Meeting Against the Dodgers
Springer was instrumental for the Astros securing the World Series in the 2017 season.
The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their initial Fall Classic following 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the final Game 7 of the ALCS.
Behind 3-1, Springer hit a three-run homer in the seventh frame, propelling the Toronto squad in MLB to a 4-3 series win in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the defending champions, in the forthcoming World Series.
"It's incredible for this squad, Toronto, the nation," commented Springer, a key player of the Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "It's truly an incredible feeling."
George Springer has now hit 23 playoff homers, placing him third in history after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"I can't think of another player anywhere that I'd choose in that situation except for him with his playoff prowess," said Schneider.
The Mariners, despite leading the early in the series, are still the only MLB franchise never to appear in a Fall Classic.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "without a doubt that it hurts" after his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but commended their performance throughout the year.
"It's a special team. It's a shame that we had to come out on the unsuccessful side of the series," he continued.
Toronto secured the title on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and 1993, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the first game on Friday.
