Pat Bamford Signs With Sheffield United After Leading Abusive Songs About Manager Chris Wilder
The striker is now a member of the Championship side only seven months after instigating derogatory songs aimed at the team's coach, Chris Wilder.
This experienced striker, without a club after departing from Leeds United, has signed a contract joining the Championship club in difficulty through the winter. Bamford's lengthy time with Leeds was ended through agreement this past summer.
One of Bamford’s last memorable actions while at Leeds included starting abusive songs about Wilder during the club’s promotion party this spring. Currently, the one-cap England player will feature under Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to lift the team he loves out of the drop zone.
Previous Conflict Involving Bamford & Wilder
The pair had history before Leeds moved up to the Premier League last season and United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. Wilder called the forward as a "muppet" when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades won automatic promotion while Leeds missed out in the playoffs.
Reconciliation and Looking Ahead
All seems to have been forgiven and forgotten with United, the league's lowest scorers, in desperate need of a boost in attack and Bamford hoping to resurrect his playing days.
The Wilder chant spread widely this spring. An apologetic Patrick and the Leeds manager, Farke, called Wilder the next day.
Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick yesterday and I’ve no issue at all with that. I’m not sure regarding the language from a fellow pro! But I valued and respected him giving me a call.
“We had 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke as well and had a longer discussion with him and he is a great person, a top guy. When I was playing we would give it and accept it and that’s an integral part of the game at every level, even on Sunday league. I've got no problem at all. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”
Recent Playing Struggles
The forward featured in 18 games for Leeds in the previous campaign but the ex- Forest, Chelsea FC & Boro striker has struggled with injury in recent years.
